Baby Julian was a dream. He fussed a little when he was hungry but mostly just let me do what I wanted. <3 Except when it came to the top hat and bow tie. Wasn’t having any of that. Which is why you won’t see any of those pictures here. But overall, he was a dream to photograph. Just like his mom and big brother (see their session here).

Mom wanted the dad arm and baby shot. Happy to oblige.

Check out his birth mark on his bum… it’s a heart. He is gonna hate these photos when he is a teenager.

There is a photo in the maternity set where Cole is kissing mommy’s tummy (see here). So we decided to do the same shots with the baby. Warning… heart melting ahead.

This photo wasn’t in focus but I loved the dreamy feeling. So I texturized it and I love it!

When I was in photography school, my fashion photography teacher said that the difference between a professional and an amateur photographer was that the professional knew when to delete shots. And I have lived by that mantra ever since.

But what are you supposed to do when the couple you are photographing are ridiculously photogenic? I mean, I think everyone takes a good picture (regardless of what they think), but these two? Gorgeous. So, this post is ridiculously long. I take no responsibility for that. I blame Suzanne and Devin.

Suzanne and Devin just wanted a simple portrait session for their wedding day. Just them and me and my camera. We met on a lovely day in Market Square (down town Victoria). Enjoy!

What can I say? I love dipping photos. And there are always laughs because no one ever practices dipping. Why is that? It’s such a classic.

There is a new store opening in Market Square called Union. It seemed fitting.

Seriously? See what I mean. So photogenic!

Meet Kathryn. Gorgeous!

Kathryn wanted some photos to use for promotion. Of course I was going to say yes! I love taking pictures of belly dancers. Kathryn was only in town for a few days as she lives in PEI. Talk about going a looooonnnnnngggggg way for a photo shoot. Awesome.

We ended up having a lovely day so we took these pictures in her mother’s yards.

The day was hot, the first of the year. I was sweating. Kathryn wasn’t. But she sure looked hot!

I don’t know why I love the following picture, but it just hits something in me. She looks so serene, so in the moment, which is the goal with dance. And why I love it so.

What is Exposure?

When it comes to the technical aspects of photography, nothing comes close to the holy trinity that makes up exposure: aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

But what is exposure?

According to Wikipedia “exposure is the amount of light allowed to fall on the photographic medium”. In basic terms, to get a “correct exposure” is to manipulate the aperture, shutter speed and ISO in order to produce an image that is not too light or dark. When you are in automatic mode, the camera does this for you. If you are in Shutter Priority mode or Aperture Priority Mode, the camera will compensate depending on the one setting you choose. But don’t worry about that… we will get to that later.

Meet Sarah and Cole. Aren’t they adorable? Sarah had two weeks left when I took her maternity photos. And Cole is a very active little boy I enjoyed our time together immensely.

Meet Andie. She was the winner of my Valentine’s Day Photography Giveaway. I was super excited to work with her! Andie got her hair and makeup done by Ashlea at the Chop Shop And then it was off to Market Square to take pictures of her and her daughter Morgan. Morgan has been watching America’s Next Top Model and definitely understood the concept of “posing”. LOL. As the weather decided to cooperate, we jetted off to Beacon Hill to get a few shots with the Cherry Blossoms.
